What Were the Best Movies of the First Decade of the 21st Century, Part 7: The Comedy Division

Here are three more contenders for that coveted “Best of the Decade” list I’m casually compiling. All three of these could be considered comedies, though each one has a foot firmly planted in at least one other genre, too.

So you consider THE INCREDIBLES a comedy?
The second is HOT FUZZ. The first might be INDIANA JONES & THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL.

Bingo on No. 2.
I’d say THE INCREDIBLES has some funny parts, but it’s not just a comedy, no.

Being There, Peter Sellers.

Why can’t THE INCREDIBLES be thought of as a comedy? I found myself laughing through most of it. Like my favorite comedies, the laughs come from situations I can identify with (boring job, dealing with puberty, family squabbles, etc.) as well as poking fun at a genre (superheroes) that we’ve seen done so many times before. Like probably most people, I do think of it as an animated film first, but if it were filmed with real actors instead, I’d probably think of it first as a comedy.

I loaned Annette, our Biz editor, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz over a year ago. I have not seen them since.
