Next Rockford Organizing Candidate Forums in March

Next Rockford is organizing two candidate forums in March to inform voters about key issues with the Rockford City Council and the Rockford School Board. The forums are sponsored by the Rockford Register Star and presented by Next Rockford in partnership with the Rockford Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters Greater Rockford.

The group will host a City Council candidate forum on Tuesday, March 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the downtown Sullivan Center (formerly New American Theatre) at 118 North Main Street. All candidates for the City Council have been invited to attend; only those in contested races will participate in the on-stage forum.

A second forum on Tuesday, March 19, also from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the downtown Sullivan Center, will feature candidates for the Rockford School Board. Again, all School Board candidates have been invited to attend; only those in contested races will participate in the on-stage forum. Both events will feature panelists from the Rockford Register Star and Next Rockford. Community members can submit question and topic suggestions via the Next Rockford Facebook page and on the Next Rockford blog.

“These are important events for the community, as they give voters a great opportunity to get to know the candidates for these critical positions and gain their insight into the key issues facing our region,” says Next Rockford Facilitator Frank Haney. “We have a great group of partners and a well-known downtown location and are expecting strong attendance at both events.”

There are alot of very good things happening in the Rockford School Dist., everyone should be excited about the proposed plans to enhance the facilities in RPS 205. Even with the excitement of watching from the outside in, its even more exciting when you get engaged and take part in the process to elect the decision makers for the School Dist. I will be there and I hope to see a packed house.
