City Council Primary Recap

Rockford faces big challenges as well as big opportunities in the coming years.  Elections matter!  So does voting.  As an example, Vernon Hilton defeated Lenny Jacobson 35 votes to 31 in the 2/26/13 primary election for the 6th ward.  One or two households determined the winner.  Although other wards had more voters, the overall turnout was 2%.

As the polls close for the primary election for City Council, Next Rockford wants to congratulate the winners and also look ahead to the general election on April 9.

Save The Date:  March 5

Next Rockford is hosting a City Council Candidate Forum on March 5 and the event will include candidates in contested general election races.  The forum begins at 6:30 pm and will be held at the Sullivan Theatre, downtown Rockford.  The forums are sponsored by the Rockford Register Star.  Event partners include the Rockford Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters.  The forums are open to the public and free of charge.

A Few Questions To Ask Yourself:

  • Do you know who is running for City Council in your ward?
  • Do they know you?
  • Do you know the candidates’ positions on the issues that matter to you and your family?
  • Do you know “why” candidates in your ward are running?

Got a question for the candidates?

Submit your question and topic suggestions via the Next Rockford Facebook page or as a comment on this blog post.

Special thanks to Scott Anderson and the Next Rockford Government Affiars Committee for their hard work in organizing this event.
