Boots and Coats Drive A Success! (but its not too late to give)

On behalf the members of Next Rockford I want to thank the community for their support of our 2014 Boots and Coats Drive. Each fall over the past 5 years, Next Rockford members have worked with their employers, local businesses, and community organizations to help gather new or gently used winter items for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade. Hundreds of boots, coats, gloves and undergarments in elementary age kid’s sizes have been collected for students in RPS 205. 100% of the items are dropped off with the RPS Community Engagement...

Please Give To Next Rockford 2013 Boots and Coats Drive

It seems around town I often hear, “What is Next Rockford?”  ….The short answer,  “It’s a group of Gen X/Gen Y professionals who work together to try and make our city a better place to live.”  This is done in many shapes and forms.  I want to invite you to join us in our latest effort to “make our city a better place”. Coming Around To The Roundabouts!! (3 Quick Facts)

Ok,  City of Rockford you got me.  I’ll admit it, I was not very thrilled about the roundabout coming to Main and Auburn.  I was even skeptical and that really is not my nature.  I’m usually a pretty progressive guy and I hate it when people don’t give new ideas a chance just because it’s something different.   But for some reason I just didn’t think it would work at a busy intersection.  I was fine with the roundabouts at Auburn and Meridian, even the one at Seminary and College but those intersections are not...

Early Voting Rocks!

There are plenty of things I dislike about the political process, more than I have time to say here.  But one of my new favorites is early voting.  I did it during the last election and again on Tuesday.  I was in and out in about 3 minutes! If you think about it most of...

School Zoning Not As Simple As It May Seem-Part 1

Over the past couple of months I had a few conversations with members of Next Rockford about the potential change in student assignment for RPS.  I must admit that those were very difficult conversations for me that brought up some emotions that I have not experienced in a long time.  Although I support the idea of having school zones for many reasons I worry about how that plays out in reality. Why? History. I still remember walking just a few blocks to Haskell growing up.  I had three best friends who all lived within about a block of each...
