An August house fire that destroyed a vacant South Beloit home has been declared arson. But, no charges have yet been filed as the investigation into who started the fire continues, fire Chief Ken Morse said.
The home at 909 Guetschow St. had been vacant for over a year before it was burned.
The building is beyond repair and it’s unclear what will happen to the property.
The property’s owner had offered to donate the small lot, which is across the street from Riverview Elementary School, to the city in return for the city demolishing the house, Morse said.
“I think the expense was too great for the city to take on,” he said.
The owner is negotiating the sale of the property to a potential buyer, who would then be responsible for razing the remains of the building, Morse said.
