Fred Van Vleet, a 2012 Auburn High School graduate and basketball standout at Wichita State University, is up for the Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the top collegiate male basketball point guard. The award is sponsored by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and spans all divisions within the game. Selection criteria focus on leadership, team work, success and fundamentals. Get ready to Rumble in the Rock this Saturday

This Saturday is our first Rumble in the Rock. What makes this event so special is that it allows our four high schools to have fun with friendly rivalries. The day-long event will feature four basketball games at Rock Valley College and a Rockford Public Schools challenge. The schools will be competing in several things throughout the day, including a cheer team contest, an alumni 3-point contest, a 50/50 raffle contest, and a game of lightning between administrators for each of the four high schools. RPS offers Spanish instructional basketball clinic to students

As Rockford Public Schools continues to improve its athletic programs, the district wants to make sure no one is left out. That’s where an event this Saturday comes into play. In a partnership with Aim High Hoops, RPS is offering a free Spanish instructional basketball clinic to students in fourth grade through eighth grade. The clinic will be held at Guilford High School from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, and pre-registration is not required.
