Feeding the hungry ‘One Plant at a Time’ in RPS 205

“One Plant at a Time,” East High School’s grant-winning community project, has donated 30 pounds of food to the hungry this summer. And it’s still growing. Students, community members and advisors to the project celebrated the bounty with an end-of-summer get-together Thursday. They had a picnic lunch in the shade east of the school building, a short walk from the garden where they have grown produce ranging from carrots to chard. RPS 205 student learns organically over the summer

Ketura St. Fleurose probably won’t pursue a career in organic gardening. But whatever she does—wherever she ends up–she wants to support local, sustainable agriculture. It’s perfect timing for a group of figure skaters in our area who still are inspired by her. The Rockford area formed a team this year and competed at the Illinois High School skating competition for the first time. Two of the 12 skaters came from Rockford Public Schools – Molly...

Rockford Public Schools Students Rock, Even on Global Issues

We talk a lot about how RPS 205 students rock. And they do. We even have a hashtag:  #OurKidsRock It’s exciting to meet students who are especially enthusiastic about learning, exploring careers or sharing their talents. That idea that our students rock isn’t limited to what they do in RPS 205, or even in Rockford. Students at East High School are tackling a global issue. East’s Young Women’s Leadership Organization on Thursday participated in an international celebration of One Billion Rising, a movement to end violence against women....
