Auburn High School students show the many colors of the blues

The blues are being reborn tonight at Rockford University. It’s part of a four-year, $1.2 million arts integration grant awarded to the Rockford Public Schools. Fourteen sophomore students of Auburn High School English teacher R.J Kuligowski and music teacher Beth Heuer are presenting their blues expressions through visual and performance art. Last chance to see RPS 205 high school art

The Rockford Public Schools fine arts department is coming off a very busy start to the New Year. The All-City Art Exhibit will be closing this weekend at four venues. The exhibit has been on display since Jan. 11 and features artwork from Guilford, Auburn, Jefferson, East, Roosevelt and Wilson Aspire. MusiCamp to give RPS 205 students a head start

A new offering in the fine arts in the Rockford Public Schools is helping to both introduce students to their middle school and give them a head start in music. MusiCamp will be from 9 a.m. to noon next Monday-Wednesday, Aug. 17-19, at all eight middle schools in RPS 205. It’s designed to give beginning band and orchestra students a chance to meet their music directors, decide on their instruments and meet their bandmates. RPS All City Music Festival is March 19

Coming from a background in athletics, I think of the All-City Music Festival as sort of an all-star game for the Rockford Public Schools music departments. It features all four of our high schools performing together at the same time, and it really is one of the top events of the year for RPS music. Advice to prospective CAPA students: ‘Put yourself out there’

Put yourself out there. Don’t be nervous. Don’t second guess yourself. Don’t ever think that you shouldn’t audition, just because there’s a chance that you won’t get in. That’s solid advice from people who know. They’ve been through the audition process for the RPS Creative and Performing Arts program at Auburn High School.
