Sometimes leadership is putting people in a position to do their jobs well. That’s especially true when it comes to leading complex organizations like schools. Nothing brings a team together faster than attempting the impossible. Members of the 2016-17 Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council gathered at Camp Winnebago the afternoon of Aug. 9 for a series of outdoor team-building exercises. Feeding the hungry ‘One Plant at a Time’ in RPS 205

“One Plant at a Time,” East High School’s grant-winning community project, has donated 30 pounds of food to the hungry this summer. And it’s still growing. Students, community members and advisors to the project celebrated the bounty with an end-of-summer get-together Thursday. They had a picnic lunch in the shade east of the school building, a short walk from the garden where they have grown produce ranging from carrots to chard. RPS 205 students fueled up to stay active this summer

A partnership to encourage good nutrition and physical activity has equipped students from the Rockford Public Schools to have a healthier summer. Eight schools in RPS 205 participated this past school year in Fuel Up to Play 60, a program sponsored by the National Dairy Council, Midwest Dairy Council and the NFL. The goal is to encourage students to make better nutritional choices and commit to at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
