Kids interested in summer activity and academic camps?

Summer is a time for increased activity. Whether you are into sports, running, biking, or swimming, there is always plenty to do to stay physically fit. But what about those students who want to keep their brains in shape?

For over 30 years, Rock Valley College’s Community and Continuing Education department has offered Whiz Kids courses for students who are looking to stay sharp over the summer. Whiz Kids classes are now offered year round for youth through eighth grade and approximately 1,000 students enroll each year. Check out this summer’s Whiz Kids offerings.

But this summer, we are excited to unveil the Rock Valley College Eagle Academic Camps. This is a more intensive program than Whiz Kids and provides intellectually motivated students ages 6-18 with an exciting and challenging experience. Through academic enrichment and skill development, students have the opportunity to increase progress that has been achieved over the preceding academic year.

All camp activities are thoughtfully planned with the objectives of teaching skills, building confidence, and improving self-esteem. Skilled faculty break down course content into managable chunks and present them in a logical sequence. The program combines remarkable academic courses with cultural, social, and recreational opportunities.

Each Academic Camp runs for one week (Monday-Friday) from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Camps being offered for this inagural summer include: Science (July 8-12), Math (July 15 – 19), Language Arts (July 15- 19), Chinese Language & Culture (July 22 – 26), and Spanish Language & Culture (July 22 – 26).

For this first summer only, working parents can take advantage of Before and After Care for younger campers free of charge. Before Care hours are 8:00-9:00 a.m. and After Care hours are 4:00-5:30 p.m. For more information on either of these programs contact Rock Valley College Community Education at 815-921-3900.
