A Seat at the Table

Just a thought

What if the reason the economy is slowing is because people have realized they have enough stuff? How many cars, big screen TVs and other gadgets do you really need? Do you really need another pair of shoes or another shirt? Have the baby boomers decided they have enough worldly wealth? What if people have decided they’ve had enough of this world and are preparing for the next?

These are just questions to start a discussion. What do you think?

You might be on to something, Wally. I was born in the early 50’s and along about 1992 I realized I didn’t need 53 pairs of shoes. I dumped pretty much everything and have not allowed myself to get caught up in the keep-up-with-the-neighbor races ever since. Every day I get more green, more conservative on how much trash I produce and how much utilities I use. The supermarket looses on me since I produce as much of my own food as I can. Restraunts loose as I rarely eat out. My gas-saver car is six years old and I’ll drive it until the wheels fall off. All this saving has not made me a rich person because I work less hours and spend more time with those I love and doing what I love. I could loose all my worldly possessions today and still know who I am. My life is full of adventure and learning, but yet I’m ready for the next transformation, whatever it entails!
