I attended the County ZBA hearing last night and it was a total sham. The ZBA chairwoman(Carol Wilke) refused to let the public comment regarding whether there should be a 90 day delay in addressing the rezoning of the former ethanol plant site on Meridian. Several citizens made a special effort to be there to speak and they were bruched aside. Wilke read a letter from the Village of Winnebago's attorney(Mary Gaziano - Republican party officialwho was proposing the delay) into the record. She briefly mentioned a letter from attorney Faye Lyon, representing individuals who live in the area but did not read that letter into the record. giving the impression there was no objection to the delay. An attorney who I assume was representing the county appeared to have absolutely no knowledge pertaining to the specific zoning and annexation issues important to the delay request. What a total joke! Get a copy of the transript and read it for yourself.

A cynical person would think that the only reason this issue was delayed was to push the controversial issue out past the November elections.

I think it would be very important to ask county board candidates what their thoughts are regarding zoning issues.
