I’d like to see governments in the Rock River Valley follow the example of the Sangamon County Board folks.

I think it’s absolutely unfair that the acts of Winnebago County Board Republicans were NEVER reported on. More than a month ago, we voted in our caucus to reduce our own pay when we enacted budget cuts. The Democrats did NOT to do the same. We voluntarily reduced our pay by 10%! On top of that, Doug Aurand said that what we were doing was “illegal.” I looked at him in astonishment. I guess it’s ok to pick and choose. We CUT OUR OWN PAY more than a month ago. Here’s a copy of the email I sent to Chuck Sweeny on 5/5/09:
Thanks. No, I did not know that so thanks for the information. We’ll ask the Dems. I”ll forward this to Wally Haas and the rest of the editorial board.

Chuck,
I was just reading the editorial regarding the pay raises and the Illinois Legislature, and I couldn’t help but send you an email. I’m not sure if you are aware of this or not, but last month we decided in the Republican County Board Caucus to all take a 10% pay cut when we enacted budget cuts. Our counterparts, as far as I know, have not done the same. The budget proposal was available for review on a Tuesday night, so I scheduled our meeting for Wed so we would have the information to discuss. That was unusual since we typically meet on Mondays ever other week….as does the Dem Caucus. She chose to hold their meeting without those budget numbers, and we were able to view them on Wed so we acted on Thurs at the County Board meeting with no other takers after it came up. I don’t like the whole “us and them” thing, but this was an example of that. As the chairman of the Republican County Board Caucus, I want to let you know on behalf of all of us what it is we chose to do. I’m not expecting to read a story on it, but just consider it an FYI in case folks did not know.
