An honorable response

Even after our newspaper’s reporting on District 205′s proposed changes to Advanced Placement and honors courses — including Chuck Sweeny’s column – much remains unclear.

What is clear: Our community has an incredible resource in the district’s graduates.

Amanda Makulec, a 2004 graduate of Auburn High School’s Academy program, has written an impassioned guest column for Sunday’s newspaper about the threat to AP and honors courses. She points out that she, and many graduates, took these courses because the rigor prepared them for college — and life.

If you’re like most shoppers, you won’t have a budget, you’ll just go out and buy. A poll by the National Endowment for Financial Education and Harris Interactive showed more than 69 percent of adults who plan to shop for the holidays this year do not set a budget.
