Financial Planning by the Book (and Web)

The internet can be a resource for consumers. There’s certainly no lack of “stuff, ” unfortunately, objective, reliable information can be hard to come by. Much of what you find falls into the category of “financial pornography.” Too much of what you find is more sales pitch than objective information. Fortunately, there are a precious few exceptions. When I taught
Northwestern CFP program, I suggested this website http://www.finance.cch.com/ as a jumping-off point when delving into any new or complex financial subject. It also has some handy little calculators. Try it! I think you’ll find it comprehensive, yet understandable. Also, for what it’s worth, I think the JK Lasser’s annual tax guide http://www.amazon.com/J-K-Lassers-Your-Income-2008/dp/0470137541/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1198088848&sr=8-2 is the best bargain out there ( twelve bucks!) in building your knowledge arsenal for your annual battle with the IRS. For investors the Fairmark Press http://www.fairmark.com/ hosts a helpful site and publishes some delightfully, easy to digest, and helpful books. Enjoy!
