Sweeny Report
The Sweeny Report takes you into the murky world of local, state and national politics. Political Editor Chuck Sweeny will try to de-mystify things for you — once he figures it out himself, that is.

I’m so glad I’m bloggin’ in the USA. Why? Well, CNN.com is reporting that a blogger in China was beaten to death by 50 government officials.

Well, gee whiz, Chuck, that sort of violent political persecution may bother a person like you but it sure doesn’t bother your good Christian buddy, our Congressman-for-Life Dishonest Don Manzullo.

Why our dear Dishonest Don was just in China in December 2007 to reassure that totalitarian government that his favorite policy of maintaining a close and uncritical relationship with those brutal dictators has “achieved positive results and played a positive role in facilitating mutual understanding, narrowing differences, building consensus, enhancing mutual trust and strengthening cooperation.”

So is that good enough for you, Chuck?

Is that violent injustice done to an innocent Chinese citizen in retaliation for his exercise of basic human rights that you enjoy without peril, something that you feel entitled to ignore in favor of an economic relationship that brings huge profit to American corporations, just as Dishonest Don does?

Are there any feelings in your heart about this tragic incident besides your smug superiority over your persecuted Chinese counterpart?

Here’s the whole article from the English language edition of the Peoples’ Daily Online of 14 December 2007. Compare and contrast. Read and weep:

Chinese, U.S. lawmakers positive on dialogues

Lawmakers from China and the United States have agreed that inter-parliamentary exchanges between legislative bodies of the two countries have achieved positive results and played a positive role in facilitating mutual understanding, narrowing differences, building consensus, enhancing mutual trust and strengthening cooperation.

The lawmakers, who met in working sessions here from Wednesday to Thursday, also had in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relationship and other issues of mutual concern and reached agreement on the arrangement of a meeting next year under a parliamentary exchange mechanism between China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) and the U.S. Congress.

Lu Congmin, vice-chairman of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee, led a working group for the working sessions. The working group met nearly two dozens of U.S. lawmakers over the past three days, including Senators Daniel Inouye and Ted Stevens, and Representatives Joseph Crowley and Donald Manzullo.

Inouye and Stevens are in charge of the dialogue mechanism between the Senate and the NPC. Crowley and Manzullo are in charge of a parallel mechanism from the House of Representatives.

During the interactions, the Chinese side said that the establishment of the parliamentary exchange mechanism was the result of common efforts and both sides should work to further consolidate and strengthen the mechanism for the development of the constructive cooperation between the two countries.

The U.S. side said that dialogues conducted under the exchange mechanism have drawn the participation of more and more U.S. lawmakers since its establishment in January of 2004. Apart from regular meetings, the U.S. lawmakers said, both sides could also hold various seminars for more substantial results.

Chinese and U.S. lawmakers have so far held four meetings under the parliamentary exchange mechanism. The 5th meeting will be held in China next year.

Judging by the virile hatred of any opinion other than Bush Speak
Republicans on your own Forum at the Register Star, if anonymity
weren’t on place there’d be more than a few dead bloggers in Rockford as well.
