Sweeny Report
The Sweeny Report takes you into the murky world of local, state and national politics. Political Editor Chuck Sweeny will try to de-mystify things for you — once he figures it out himself, that is.

McCain, Romney trade victories. And the race is on.

Well, McCain took South Carolina’s primary; Huckabee, despite having little money, came in a decent second. Romney won the caucuses of Nevada.

So much for the Fred Thompson’s big comeback. It didn’t happen in S.C. Back to Law & Order for you, Fred. The GOP race is now starting to look like the mirror image of the Democrats. It’s McCain vs. Romney with Huckabee in third. Rudy “I was there at 911″ Guiliani, Thompson and white collar anarchist Ron Paul are roadkill on the highway to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. No, Rudy won’t win Florida.

The Democrats had their big day in Nevada, with Mrs. Clinton  defeating Obama in the popular vote — Obama won the delegate count, though.
Democrats vote next Saturday in South Carolina, where Obama is expected to do well. The media, being browbeaten by the Clintonistas, have put a template on the primary, and for the next week they’ll be saying “Obama has to win big” in S.C. to remain a credible candidate. So, if the Hillinator comes in a close second, east coast TV pundit/anchors (two, two jobs in one!) will say Obama’s victory was too close to matter, and that Clinton “won” by coming in a strong second. You watch and see if I’m right.

Obama may have been hurt by making favorable comments about Ronald Reagan’s leadership abilities in an interview with  the Reno paper.  Obama wasn’t praising the Gip’s policies, but the fact that the Great Communicator knew how to inspire the nation — even when a majority of Americans disagreed with him on social and economic policies.

But the Clinton campaign took a few of his words and used them to mount a last minute barrage of negative advertising and phone calling. It just may have worked. Obama, if he wants to win, will have to learn to be like Bill’n'Hill: scratch, claw, cheat and say and do anything, no matter how audacious.

Hey, I’m jsut sayin’.
