Pack on top at half time.

I’m happy to see the Packers recovered from their early-on freeze, and it’s 10-6 at halftime.

Giants driving

Add comment January 20th, 2008

the beginning of the NFC championship game is NY Giants. They’re driving pretty good right now. Still now score. Eli Manning is hot — Packers have yet to make an impression.

Will Edwards get the message and quit? And who would he support?

Add comment January 19th, 2008

John Edwards did terribly in Nevada.

He got barely 4 percent of the vote, and no delegates. With the closeness of the race between Barry ‘n’ The Hillinator, Edwards could have a significant impact on the Dems’ race by quitting and endorsing one of the frontrunners.

I can’t think he wants to be the vice-presidential nominee again, but who knows what lurks in the mind of a personal injury lawyer/hedge fund manager?

Senator Syverson to explode myths at luncheon. Wear protective headgear/body wear.

Add comment January 19th, 2008

State Sen.  Dave Syverson, Republican of Rockford, is having his annual fundraiser lunch on Monday.

Here’s how these things usually go: Brad Burzynski yucks it up in his introductory stand-up routine, then Dave gets in a few choice hits at “the media.” Then, it’s a round of Chicago bashing,  followed by half an hour of “if only the Republicans were in power we’d get it right.”

McCain, Romney trade victories. And the race is on.

Add comment January 19th, 2008

Well, McCain took South Carolina’s primary; Huckabee, despite having little money, came in a decent second. Romney won the caucuses of Nevada.

So much for the Fred Thompson’s big comeback. It didn’t happen in S.C. Back to Law & Order for you, Fred. The GOP race is now starting to look like the mirror image of the Democrats. It’s McCain vs. Romney with Huckabee in third. Rudy “I was there at 911″ Guiliani, Thompson and white collar anarchist Ron Paul are roadkill on the highway to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. No, Rudy won’t win Florida.

The Democrats had their big day in Nevada, with Mrs. Clinton  defeating Obama in the popular vote — Obama won the delegate count, though.
Democrats vote next Saturday in South Carolina, where Obama is expected to do well. The media, being browbeaten by the Clintonistas, have put a template on the primary, and for the next week they’ll be saying “Obama has to win big” in S.C. to remain a credible candidate. So, if the Hillinator comes in a close second, east coast TV pundit/anchors (two, two jobs in one!) will say Obama’s victory was too close to matter, and that Clinton “won” by coming in a strong second. You watch and see if I’m right.

Obama may have been hurt by making favorable comments about Ronald Reagan’s leadership abilities in an interview with  the Reno paper.  Obama wasn’t praising the Gip’s policies, but the fact that the Great Communicator knew how to inspire the nation — even when a majority of Americans disagreed with him on social and economic policies.

But the Clinton campaign took a few of his words and used them to mount a last minute barrage of negative advertising and phone calling. It just may have worked. Obama, if he wants to win, will have to learn to be like Bill’n'Hill: scratch, claw, cheat and say and do anything, no matter how audacious.

Hey, I’m jsut sayin’.

Where’s Global Warming when we need it?

2 comments January 18th, 2008

OK, I admit I’m a global warming skeptic. However, if you think it’ s going to be cold in Green Bay on Sunday for the NFC championship game pitting the Packers against the New York Hub Caps, or something like that, you might be surprised to learn that the forecast for Siberia is worse: -67.

Wonder what Al Gore would think of that. The Russians must be off-message.

Rockford’s buses now subsidized by Chicago taxpayers!

Add comment January 17th, 2008

Just so you know the facts:

Certain local Republican state senators and House members are sure to start bloviating about big, bad Chicago stealing all our cookies, so I wanted to point out a little known fact that they won’t tell you about:

The mass transit funding bill passed Thursday by the legislature boosts funding for downstate mass transit districts. That means $1.2 million more for Rockford Mass Transit.

Chicagoland taxpayers are funding the increase through an increase in their sales tax and a tax on real-estate transfers in  Chicago.

So, Chicagoans are directly subsidizing our bus service with their taxes.

Just so you know the facts before the disinformation campaign starts.

Patrick Leahy endorses Obama

Add comment January 17th, 2008

Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy has endorsed Barack Obama.

Quoted in  The Politico, ” Leahy said  “We need a president who can reintroduce America to the world — and actually reintroduce America to ourselves.”

Obama, Leahy said,  carried the “hope” to end the war in Iraq and to bring “health care for all.”

He also compared the decision to support Obama to supporting John F. Kennedy for president.

Ill. House passes transit funding bill

Add comment January 17th, 2008

The House has just passed the transit bill to fund Chicagoland mass transit and provide extra money to downstate transit systems. The vote was 61-47. This was the bill that Gov. Rod Blagojevich used his amendatory veto to provide free rides to seniors.

Now we’ll see what the Senate does.
