Pothole City. What can we do?

There’s a whole lot of noise being made about North Alpine Road’s potholes.
Folks, there are huge potholes all over the area that are worse than North Alpine. Have you been on West Riverside between North Main and the bridge? Yikes!
Kishwaukee Street is a lunar surface.
And the Whitman Street/North Second Street interchange is littered with hubcaps! I counted at least 8 on one particularly holy stretch.
20th Street between Charles and Broadway was awful, but the city did a patch job that took out the worst holes.
I’m not in the road business, but I think we could alleviate the problem with future projects if we used standards that require thicker surfaces, relied more on concrete, and had a plan to tar cracks in the pavement throughout the temperate months, before they can develop into potholes the next winter.

Chuck- I was down in the Quad Cities today and while there I had the exact same thought as you. The concrete roads were smooth while the asphalt surfaces were breaking up, Also the city should make sure that the correct process is used when the hole are filled. The material that is used to patch needs to be rolled, either by a truck or a roller. If they just “drop and go” without rolling the material just comes out again during temperature changes.

Having lived in the Rockford area over 40 winters & driving many cars into…and arround many axel busting pot holes I have found the answer to the problem….Move about 560 miles to the southeastern part of the state of Kentucky!..We have no holes down here…basically because no drastic freezing and thawing cycles. So this is my suggestion…DON’T HAVE WINTER!

Come on, Let’s put a positive “spin ” on this. name one of our sports teams the Rockford Potholes. Guess we gotta get used to ‘em.
And/or when a young person is issued their first license- hand ‘em a bucket of tar and a shovel. ..

I just bought a product from White House Equipment in Roscoe that is a epoxy and rubber based pourable patch to fix a LARGE hole in my drive. The product worked great and had my monster pot hole fixed in 30 min. The product is called New Life and has been used in Michigan for years with great results. Someone at city hall should look into this 1 Woman permanent fix!!!!
