Morrissey right to authorize cops to ticket in-school truants

Good for Mayor Morrissey standing up to the imperial school bureaucrats — the School District Central Command Triumverate of Katz, Hoffman & Hernandez.
Incredibly, the school “leaders” believe that city cops shouldn’t issue truancy tickets to kids who are in school, but roaming the halls instead of going to class. No, they want the cops to wait until a fight breaks out, then stop it.
Morrissey, realizing logically that such “in-school truants” are the very ones who foment trouble, wants his cops to ticket the kids if they don’t go back to class.
There was good cooperation between Morrissey and former Superintendent Dennis Thompson. Both men made TV commercials together touting the importance of being in school. Both warned that the truancy ordinance would be enforced.
Then Thompson left abruptly. Now, truancy referals have dried up.
Where is the School Board on this one?

So the mayor can demand that officers break privacy laws and ticket students even though they are not truly truant according to the board of education - but I guess he and his administration don’t follow the law anyway - remember when his 2nd in command got drunk, drove and passed out in front of his home putting thousands of Rockford residents in danger - the last I knew that was a real crime and he got a little slap on the hand and got to keep his cushy job. Chuck why would you approve of our mayor breaking the law - he is not the chief of police or the school board president - he is the mayor - aren’t there other issues Larry could keep himself occupied with. Very dissapointed Rockford Resident!

Hopefully Morrisey will soon leave the Mayor’s Office and run for School Board. It seems he’s more concerned with the goings on in our schools than he is in the daily running of the city.

Chuck, I tried asking you this last week but somehow my comment disappeared. How about YOU finding out where the school board is on this one?
