Sweeny Report
The Sweeny Report takes you into the murky world of local, state and national politics. Political Editor Chuck Sweeny will try to de-mystify things for you — once he figures it out himself, that is.

King Abdullah to Bush: No more oil for you.

May 16th, 2008 at 10:55am Chuck Sweeny

On the day when the price of oil hit a record $127 a barrel, President George W. Bush went to Saudi Arabia for the second time this year to beg King Abdullah to ratchet up oil production in that terrorist-producing absolute dictatorship.

And for the second time this year, the King said, “No.”

I admit it: I voted for W, twice. But I can’t wait for high noon on Jan. 20, 2009, when he’s finally gone.

Of course, if John McCain takes over, Bush won’t really be gone at all. He’ll just perform the third Bush term.

For all of you who voted for Bush and now dislike what the country has become under his egregious misrule:

Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. (Job 4:8)

I cannot for the life of me understand your political views. You vote for W and then are a huge supporter of Obama? Talk about schizophrenia.

I vote for the person, not their party. I didn’t care for Al Gore or John Kerry and Bush seemed a good alternative. But he has totally botched this war and I’m glad he’s going away.
I’ll decide who gets my vote based on who I think will do a better job leading this nation in the coming four years. Nobody has a lock on my vote, and I think we currently have three, solid candidates in Clinton, Obama and McCain.
I won’t vote for Ron Paul because I’m not for white collar anarchy.

It is not about voting for a Party….it is about your choice of men and their beliefs. These two seem to be polar opposites in what they believe and how they govern/intend to govern. Yet you have chosen both. So your beliefs are either schizophrenic or inconsistent.

Not really. There isn’t much difference between the Republican and Democratic parties. They are centrist institutions interested in maintining the status quo of a capitalist economy.
The big difference between them? “My guys get jobs versus your guys get jobs.”

Since I don’t get to choose between “isms,” and I’m not sure I’d want to, I’m more interested in the leadership qualities and the character of the candidates.
    That help you out?

In case it even crosses your mind since some of you know I use the initials “lgc” frequently, the anonymous poster to this and other rrstar.com blogs is not I. I never post anonymously, and I would never, ever make statements like these about a veteran, credible journalist like Chuck. Amazes me how some folks think tossing potshots anonymously proves how smart they are….

Saudis to boost oil output after US pressure
    By Javier Blas in London

    Published: May 16 2008 14:06 | Last updated: May 16 2008 23:17

Saudi Arabia said on Friday that it was increasing its oil production to its highest level in two years, bowing to intense US pressure after the price surged to a fresh record of almost $128 a barrel.

The announcement of a boost to output by about 300,000 barrels a day came after a plea by George W. Bush, US president, to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

Railrider, 300,000 barrels does not a gusher make. It’s a token.

I didn’t think questioning someone who supported Bush and Obama was that far out of bounds on a political blog. I apologize. And my name is Lawrence Gregory Clarkson, for the record.

You know, LGC, what you wrote was in fact NOT out of bounds. What amazes me is the seemingly thin skin of the Register Star. Look, you want to venture out on to the Internet, and get into the “chat” game, you’re going to take some criticism. If you can’t, you should stay out.

It\\\’s my blog. I decide what\\\’s out of bounds. On YOUR blog, you can do the same thing. Isn\\\’t the Internet wonderful?

  • 12. Randy Brian  |  May 27th, 2008 at 2:59 pm

Yes Chuck, you sure can. But I am not sure what you’re responding to. In the above trail one poster questioned the consistency of your political views. And you explained. But then your editor referred to these questions as “potshots.” Just seemed a tad hypersensitive, that’s all.
