Perception is reality. Rockfordians don't see any street work being done. I mean really, where have you seen any noticeable improvement? YEs, North Main-Rt. 2 , north of Auburn is a state road, (as is N. Alpine) but even well-versed people such as myself do not stop and think "this is a state road, not a city road", they just think the road is terrible and that nothing is being done to address it. That is a reflection on on the city because it's in the city.

Yes, like lemmings, Rfd. voters passed the sales tax hike, even though it is cheaper to buy two $15-dollar wheel stickers a year. (you can prove otherwise) I don't mind paying taxes if the money is used for the purpose it is intended. But, as in so many other cases, it is squandered on other things.

As for the wisdom of the voters, they re-elected Gov. Blagojevich, knowing full well that there was no benefit in doing so.

Voters also easily re-elect our lawmakers, but they aren't doing much. The 2 Daves are more interested in participating in silly dance contests. Zeke never would have done such things! He would be getting things done.

No wonder people get cynical.

You're wrong. We're doing $16 million worth of street work, all over town. That's twice as much as we used to do under the old, bond issue program.

The referendum passed overwhelmingly, the mayor didn't shove it down our throats.

State roads aren't getting done because Illinois lawmakers and Governor Goofy can't pass a capital plan.

How about a single issue candidate with the slogan "It's the potholes, stupid". Do you think that would get voters fired up?

Mayor Pothole raised taxes and convinced citizens the money would be used to fix up the roads. Voters passed his tax but then nothing happened. Why did Larry lie to us? What did they do with the money? Go up North Main between Auburn and Fulton, it's like driving on a washboard.
