Democrats lost in tree hugging wilderness on energy

8 comments August 7th, 2008

I’m afraid Democrats, faced with a public angry at $4 gas prices, don’t know what to do. All of a sudden, it’s not so popular being green. The people want to drill for oil, early, often, and John McCain is out there on the stump, championing drilling and calling Obama’s energy plan one of inflating tires and raising taxes, albeit on oil companies.

Democrats are all over the block. For decades they’ve catered to the wine and brie left-wing tree hungers, and now the party is known forĀ  what it’s against. It’s against drilling for oil. It’s against nuclear power. It’s against burning coal. However, people want power, and I don’t think they’re interested in turning America’s countryside into 300 million acres of windmills, wall=to-wall cornfields for ethanol, or a solar panel the size of North Dakota.

Me, I’m for the Paris Hilton plan: We drill for more oil in an environmentally responsible way, provide tax credits to develop more efficient cars, and work on alternative technologies.

I’m also for many more nuclear plants (Democratic Congressional candidate and maverick Bob Abboud suggests 100 nukes)

to create the power for plug in cars == hybrids that run the first 30 miles on electric power from being plugged in overnight. This can be done == now. The technology’s not new.
