This just in from the Obama campaign: Obama has reserved the Old State Capitol in Springfield to appear at noon Saturday with his running-mate, the mystery person who will be announced sometime this week.
The ticket will kick off its tour of battleground states on the way to the Denver convention next week. The kick-off event is at the building where Abraham Lincoln served as a state legislator. That building is actually Illinois’ fifth capitol building, completed in 1853. It was here that Lincoln delivered his famous “House Divided” speech. Abe said the speech that the nation could not long survive half slave and half free, that it would either become all one thing or all the other.
