Let’s look at why McCain chose Palin

August 29th, 2008 at 10:37am Chuck Sweeny

Now that I’ve had some time to think about the Sarah Palin pick for veep, here are the reasons I think McCain chose her:

McCain is not trusted by the Republican Party’s conservative base. They’ll vote for him because they consider Obama the devil incarnate, but they’re not motivated to organize for McCain as they would have been for a movement conservative with the James Dobson seal of approval.

Palin, a mother of five, is a social conservative and economic conservative.

McCain has been making a pitch for disaffected supporters of Hillary Clinton to consider voting for him. Adding a woman to the ticket strenghtens that pitch, especially because with McCain’s age being a factor, Ms. Palin could become president.

It diffuses the GOP’s “old fuddy duddy” image by adding an attractive young woman who resembles a Fox News Channel anchor to the ticket.

Downsides: Palin has virtually no experience in governmet, being governor under 2 years. And some in the evangelical community do not believe that a mother of five should be working outside the home.

And, her pro-life stance won’t sit well with a great many of the disgruntled Hillary supporters.

    John McCain

Congress: 26 Years Military: 22 Years

    Barrack Obama

Congress: 143 Days Military: 0 Days

Just think how great a professional of any kind you could be with only 143 days of experience!!!

People want change so badly? . . . . maybe we should lower the experience requirement for doctors, lawyers, airline pilots, etc. This would cause some change!

Obama’s 143 Days of Senate Experience: Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of actual work days? Not much.

From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United States Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory Committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate.

That’s how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.

The one single Senate committee that he headed never even met — once.

After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan.

    Think about it……143 days — 20.4 weeks — 4.7 months

Our children spend more time in pre-school getting ready for kindergarten.

Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Obama and Biden put together.

I think your math is a little off there PJ…your math applied to McCain means he would have had to have been a Senator since he was 12. And we all know that isn’t the case, because he was a POW for some of that time, remember?

The senate is in session for an average of 160 days a year. So by your math, 26 years=9490 days 9460days/160 days per year in the Senate= Actual time needed of 59.3 years.
Or does your math only apply to Obama? Sorry try again.

I will grant you that Barack Obama doesn’t have the longtime experience that McCain has, but more worrying is that McCain’s been around for 26 years and still supports wrong headed and failed policies, has he not learned anything? Or has he just forgotten it in the last 8 years while he flip-flopped on most of his important positions to become more like the far-right he was compared to and called a maverick?
Obama doesn’t have the political experience of McCain, and that’s a GOOD thing.

The thing that the Obama campagin is saying no is that McCain can not use experience as a trumph card. In fact they are correct. It is that belt way outsider that will make the difference in the fall…I just feel it in my bones…

She is type of person that will kick down doors to see if it is broken…she is the expert in energy and she likes to hunt! I love this pick! A+ Senator McCain…I was a doubting Thomas when I first heard the news this morning….but after hearing her speak live, wow! She will be a dynamo and regardless how blatent the attempt at the CLinton vote, I think disinfrancised women will flock to the ticket at this point.

Side note…having had to put up with the democrats in my city for the last 5 days, I am glad they are gone!!! I get my city back

Milton, you were right, but it wasn’t my math that was wrong. McCain retired with 27 years in the military, not 22 as I wrote.

McCain was born in 1936, entered the Nav y in 1954 at age 18. He retired from the Navy with 27 years at age 45. Elected to the house in 1982 and later the senate to date (26 years), current age is 72.

Granted, these figures are plus or minus a month or two but why quibble when considering Obama’s election to the senate in 2005.

Considering the fact that Illinois is known as the most political corrupt state in the union it would really be a stretch to consider his Illinois senate experience as something we would want in the white house. We have a democrat for governor and the house and senate are controlled by democrats and look at the mess we are in with no hope in sight. Keep voting that straight democratic ticket.

What happened when the democrats took over the US senate and House and all the changes they were going to make immediately. What did they do? The answer is absolutely nothing, but it is so convenient to blame Bush for everything. To say McCain will be another 8 years of the Bush doctrine is BS and you know it.

I am not fond of either candidate and I hink it is a sad testimony when we have 300 million people in the United States and these two are the best we can come up with. We are forced to pick the lesser of two evils
