We’ll always have Paris, but don’t boo at the soccer match

Of all the national anthems, France’s ‘La Marsellaise is probably the most stirring. My favorite, of course, is the Star Spangled Banner, but the French anthem is a great one to hum.
I especially liked the version the band struck upĀ at “Rick’s” in Casablanca to drown out the German officers’ songs.
The French are really, really serious about their anthem, to the point that if it is booed at the beginning of a football match (soccer to us) the game will be halted, by order of the French sports minister with the enthusiastic approval of President Nicolas Sarkozy. Read all about it here:
