CAUCUS SHOCKER!! GOP Rockford Township Caucus might have floor nominations!!!!!

Add comment January 13th, 2009

The Rockford Township Republican caucus, which opens its doors at 5 p.m. at Flinn Middle School tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 13, may allow floor nominations of candidates after all.

After saying that only candidates who signed up and had their names printed on a caucus ballot could be considered at the gathering, a GOP official now says, just hours before the event,  that if a party caucus-goer challenges the rules and gets the vote of the assembled Republicans, the rules could be changed to allow candidate nominations from the floor!

So, it’s possible that unknown or “Mystery” candidates could appear tonight, and be slated.

Currently, the only candiate for township clerk is Diane Mitchell, the incumbent; the only candidate for highway commissioner is Pete MacKay, also the incumbent. MacKay has voiced suspicions that caucus organizers scrapped the primary system in order to kick him off the general election ballot in April.

Republicans have no candidate against Democratic township supervisor Mickey Goral, but it’s possible one could be slated tonight.

Message to my Republican friends: Were you entirely above board in explaining to everyone that the caucus rules can be amended from the floor? I don’t think so. Remember,  honesty is a family value.

Be like France, go nuclear

I’m greatly disturbed that Democratic senators, key among them Kent Conrad of North Dakota, are insisting that President-elect Obama put billions more in his stimulus package for wind and solar energy.

Oh, I know that will tick off some of you screaming  greenies, but wind and solar are just not efficient ways to generate electricity.  Plus, solar panels and windmills litter the landscape. Windmills kill hundreds of millions of birds. If Conrad turns the Great Plains into a wind farm, we won’t have any birds left. Just bird parts.

The U.S. needs to take a lesson from France, where 85 percent of the energy is produced in safe, clean nuclear plants just like the one in Byron, IL. The French have developed a safe way to reprocess nuclear waste, so there’s no need for a place to bury it.

France’s electric grid runs that country’s amazing system of 210 mph. electric trains. That’s the ultimate in comfortable, non-polluting transport.

Wind and solar energy will never produce more than a fraction of the U.S. energy needs, but the glaring solar panels and windmills will scar millions of acres of our countryside.

Go nuclear. It works in France, and it can work here.
