Ex KGB spy to buy London’s Evening Standard newspaper

I’ve heard of strange newspaper takeovers — real estate mogul Sam Zell buying the Trib comes to mind — but here’s something that takes the cake. Russian oligarch Alexander Lebedev, a KGB agent during the Soviet era, is poised to buy the London Evening Standard. He said he grew fond of the sensationalistic Standard while reading it as part of his spy duties for Moscow. The Guardian has the story.
