Manzullo responds to Obama speech

February 24th, 2009 at 10:40pm Chuck Sweeny

Here’s Congressman Don Manzullo’s take on Obama’s speech.

“Following weeks of unprecedented spending, it was good to hear President Obama talk tonight about the need for fiscal responsibility as we move our country forward. As our nation recovers, we must quickly end this government spending spree that is heaping massive amounts of debt on our future generations. Unfortunately, Congress plans to pay off our bills by increasing taxes on Americans instead of cutting wasteful spending. These tax hikes – which include the return of the job-killing death tax – will especially hurt our small business owners, who create 70 percent of all new jobs each year. Why in these dire economic times would we intentionally hurt the segment of our economy that has the best chance to put people back to work?

“Instead, the government should tighten its purse strings and cut spending as all Americans are doing in these difficult times. The people I represent are worried and hurting, and I appreciate President Obama’s urgency in trying to return us to prosperity. I will continue to reach out to the President and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to do what we can to improve the lives of all Americans.”

If you want to support small businesses, support HR 676. Single payer healthcare is long overdue. We need universal healthcare, not universal health insurance.
Everybody I have talked to about this agrees that they are tired of having their insurance providers decide whether they get health care or not, and where they must go to get health care.
Insurance company administrative fees are costing 30% of what our nations spends on health care. Everyone could get health care for what we are now spending if we weren’t giving 30% of the total to private insurers.
Do some research, Congressman Manzullo, and tell us why you are still not supporting HR 676.

“Job-killing death tax”? I wish he could explain what this is. This reinforces the idea that Republicans answer to every problem is tax cuts for wealthier Americans.

dudessabides - You really think the government is going to do a better job of managing your health care than private insurance companies? Really? Seriously?

No doubt our health care in this country needs adjustment. Obama’s plan to heavily invest in IT infrastructure may do wonders if implemented correctly. I fully support this initiative.

But HR676 is a Socialistic nightmare.

As far as Manzullo goes, increasing the taxes on the wealthy to levels we had in the 1990’s isn’t going to hurt anybody. And from I hear, he’s planning on reducing the budget deficit, so how is that going to hurt future generations? The Death Tax is a different matter. Do the liberals really want to bring that monstrosity back?

I have a message for Mr. Manzullo. I have never and will never vote for him. The “death tax” is a term frequently used by people to dramatize what is actually a tax ONLY for the very wealthy, and ONLY for those wealthy who couldn’t figure out how to get out of paying what it really is, the estate tax. A minute percentage of his constituents (probably less than 1%) actually pay it. The vast majority of his constituents will see a pretty good tax CUT. I would appreciate Mr. Manzullo’s vote to CUT my taxes, which is what will be in this budget. In the meantime, I wish he could find some affordable health care for my grown child, who, because he chose not to go to college full time has no health care benefits. One crisis will bankrupt him and me as his parent.

It’s too bad Manzullo didn’t get voted out. He’s clearly not in touch with his constituents or anyone else!

The problem with Manzullo is that he’s all talk, and not nearly as much action. I once heard someone refer to him as working 10-4 with a 2-hour lunch.

I do think that it is time for him to move on. He just isn’t effective.

I can’t believe that second-hand gossip is passed along this malicious manner by echo4charlie. His assertions have no basis in fact. Rep. Manzullo is effective — just ask the 50 workers at Acument Technologies about what he did to revive the old Textron fastener factory.
