What happened to 17 million people?

All the stories I’m reading about the health care bill in the Senate say it will cover an additional 30 million Americans. No mention is ever made of what happened to the media mantra of not so very long ago, that 47 million Americans lack health insurance.
So, NYTimes, Washington Post and the rest of you, what happened to the 17 million?Does this legislation fail to cover 17 million Americans? Or are there 17 million non-Americans here who won’t be covered? It would be nice to know.

They will continue to get healthcare from emergency rooms which is expensive and paid for through cost shifting. They will lack preventive care. Everyone pays more.
Good point Mr. Sweeny.

More spin from Mr. Sweeney. The original number touted by the left was that there were 47million people lacking. However, the facts were that, of this number, some 10 to 12 million consisted of ILLEGAL immigrants. ILLEGAL and NON-AMERICAN.
Now, with the current bill on the verge of being passed, there will still be about 20 some million people left without life insurance. Come on people, do your math! Through all of the machinations and slight of hand over the last several months we will still be left with uninsured Americans.
This bill is not, and was never meant to be, a solution to America’s health care. It was and is only about power; power over our lives and our future.
While we have be mesmerized by the Tiger Woods scandal and the new movie “Avatar”, our so called representatives have been doing ill work.
They should be ashamed and embarrassed.

It sounds to me like they are going to try to lower expectations. It will make the proposed panacea look better.

complaints were made about Gitmo giving us a bad reputation world-wide. complaints were made about Afghanistan political corruption. Now we seem to have the American Senate “buying and selling its votes”. What have we come to ? A terrible example for emerging countries that “want to be like America”.

Denny, buying and selling votes has gone on since the beginning of the Republic. I learned about it in American history in high school. It’s called logrolling.
Not a pretty sight, but then, it was Bismarck who said one should never observe two things: sausage-making and a law-making.

good facts of history……but the early days of Chicago, controled by the Mafia: buying off politicians had to come to an end for the good of people. Yes, the Mafia always took care of “the family”…..as current politicians buy and sell their votes to take care of their States (family). At some point in Chicago history…..they said enough is enough …….and worked to clean up the mess. The sausages were found to be unsafe to eat. Looked like sausages, but full of some good meat and a bunch of rotten stuff that will make us sick. As an FDA (voter)…. I ask the makers to recall the sausage.
