Airlines are dropping like flies

First it was Aloha Airlines and Champion Air.
Now, ATA is shutting down.
Puts things into perspective - RFD lost a couple of routes, but these whole airlines are going under elsewhere.
It’s a shame on ATA - I used to fly them from Midway to LaGuardia in NYC. Not the best planes or service, but cheap prices and a convenient connection. They always seemed like one of those Midway-based airlines that could make something work at RFD too. Guess not.

Because of resignations by the CEO and Ops VP, I have a feeling Skybus might be next.

You ain’t the only one. It’ll be interesting to watch that story unfold.

Any word about how Ryan International Airlines, headquartered here in Rockford, is doing ?
Side note, nice article on the area aviation and aerospace industry.
Having Ryan Intl’s HQ’s here is another sidebar to that as well.

Good question about Ryan….
I do know this - I have seen ATA up here alot, usually with the DC-10’s they acquired from Northwest. Now that ATA no longer operates, maybe Ryan will pick up some of the military contracts. I’m sure Omni Air International will be pickup up some of ATA’s contracts as well.

rfdbusinessman - Ryan seems to be doing well, having their pilot contract issues behind them. They don’t say much publicly, but I get the sense the military work keeps coming in. The only reason I didn’t mention them in the aerospace industry story is because I was focusing on construction, design and maintenance operations, but their being here is very good for the area.
Jason - I’m not sure Ryan will get any of the ATA contracts. My sense is the big one ATA lost has been given to someone else, but I haven’t heard Ryan’s name come up. I’ll do some digging as I can.
