Today’s fuel price musings - It’s getting worse slower

This is what it’s gotten to. With prices not going down, we’re at least noting that prices aren’t going up as fast as they had been. The Rockford average for gasoline has gone up only 1 percent (about four cents) in the past month.Diesel is even slower, having risen only a cent in the past month. Knock on wood.

Numbers, as always,  courtesy of AAA’s fuelgaugereport.com:

Gasoline: Rockford rose almost a cent to $4.15 a gallon, about four cents shy of the record set last week. We’re fifth in the state in gas prices (Even Springfield, at almost $4.18, is ahead of us). The state average increased almost a cent to a record $4.23 a gallon (about 2 percent above a month ago). The national average increased half a cent to a record $4.11 (up 1 percent from a month ago). Illinois has the eighth-highest gas prices in the nation.

Diesel: Rockford increased two cents this morning to $4.83, about three cents below the record set in May. We have the third- or fourth-highest diesel prices in the state, depending on what Quincy is at. The state average increased a a cent to a record $4.85 a gallon (about 1 percent above a month ago). The national average increased less than a cent to a record $4.82 a gallon (less than 1 percent above a month ago). Illinois is tied with the 18th-highest prices in the country (including the District of Columbia).
