Today’s fuel price musings - We dodged a Gustav
Add comment September 2nd, 2008
Hurricane Gustav apparently did less damage than feared, and in reaction oil tumbled more than $6 a barrel today. Guess we shouldn’t have filled up in Chicagoland this weekend (near $4 a gallon, we were worried we’d see higher out her eventually). Oh well, he who lives by the oil and gas predictions…
Gas prices are slipping down slowly - some reports online (illinoisgasprices.com and Road Ranger’s Web site) show prices in some places in the high $3.60s and others in the mid $3.70s locally.
Our Gas Tracker feature is down right now. We’ll let you know when it’s back up.
Here’s the price situation as of this morning (prices courtesy of AAAs fuelgaugereport.com):
Gasoline: Rockford dropped more than a cent to $3.74 a gallon. We’re down to seventh in the state in gas prices. The Illinois average dropped almost a cent to $3.87. The national average dropped slightly to $3.64. Illinois has the eighth-highest gas prices in the nation.
Diesel: Rockford dropped more than a cent to $4.13 a gallon, down 49 cents in the past month. We have the seventh-highest diesel prices in the state. The state average dropped almost a cent to $4.32, down 36 cents in the past month. The national average dropped half a cent to $4.26, down 41 cents in the past month. Illinois has the 17th-highest prices in the country (including the District of Columbia).
