Cranky Flier blasts JetAmerica plan
May 27th, 2009 at 11:30am Thomas V. Bona
After some fits and starts, it appears that Jet America (or JetAmerica, they write it differently in different places) is actually going to get up and running. You can stop checking the calendar. It’s not April Fool’s Day. This airline is actually planning a Toledo base.
I honestly couldn’t make this sound any worse if I tried.
He also doesn’t think JetAmerica’s reason for dropping RFD in favor of Lansing and South Bend - hey, they’re closer to Toledo! - makes any sense. Interesting read.
(Oh, and you can’t book flights online right now - there’s a “runtime error”).

On one hand this is disappointing news. On the other hand, other newspaper reports (Chicago Tribune, Piedmont area NC) mention Rockford as in JetAmerica’s future expansion plans.
I think it may be a good thing to let them get themselves up and running properly and smoothly, then look at their financial and operational situation before seeing them come to RFD.
Tough environment to start an airline in right now. Not the best start for JetAmerica but if they take their time and dont do anything else dumb, they could have a chance. If fuel goes back to the price it was last summer though, forget it.

They did the right thing in upping TOL-EWR to 6x weekly. They did not have a prayer otherwise. However, I still think their aircraft are too big. These aircraft are 189 seats. Most domestic mainline aircraft don\’t have that many seats in them.
