Yep, JetAmerica delayed again

July 2nd, 2009 at 06:02pm Thomas V. Bona

Cranky Flier confirms that JetAmerica is delaying its launch another month. It has sent a letter to its customers saying it will refund tickets sold before Aug. 14 (check the bottom of the post and the comments section for the letter):

Unfortunately, however, you are receiving this notice to inform you that due to landing slot issues in Newark, that we are going to have to delay our first flights 30 days until August 14th. When we started planning your flight months ago, we were not required as an Indirect Air Carrier to have landing and takeoff slots at Newark’s Liberty International Airport; however, due to recent policy clarifications, even Indirect Air Carriers now have to have slots into and out of Newark. We just found out about this on May 30th and have been working hard to acquire the slots from the FAA and other airlines.

“Policy clarifications”? Is that like when my boss “clarifies” that I have to get a story done on time? Weird stuff.

I think that the next “clarification” they will receive is the one that states who owns the Jet America trademark.

If you mean Alaska Airlines, they noted earlier this year that they do not still have the JetAmerica name. As for the corporate jet company Jet America, my understanding is its not an issue (maybe making it one word makes all the difference).

    I did not know that….thanks!

JetAmerica seems to be a mess starting up. I think that it is a blessing in disguise that they did not start up here. That being said I would like to see JetAmerica get going, grow and succeed with RFD being served. Still fearful that their flying planes too large for the markets being served though.

I understand that there is another proposed start up looking to fly out of Gary to Reagan National and Newark. Stay tuned. Could they be looking to RFD also ?

greybush has it right. This is according to some short newspaper clips in the NW Indiana newspapers. Do a news google search on gary chicago airport and you should see about three short articles. Thanks for all the good work you do Thomas.

Man, that Viza Airlines site has got issues…

Though, JetAmerica has a nice site and sketchy service so far. So maybe quality of site is inversely proportional to success…?

“So maybe quality of site is inversely proportional to success…?”

    LOL…possibly.

JetAmerica isn’t going to fly. They are finished. Indirect air carriers are basically one step above general aviation. That means slot restrictions are applicable to them and they are way down the food chain. What makes anyone think that this will be fixed by 8/14? As another poster noted, the planes are way too big, which is why the frequency will kill them.
