Book Drive

Barnes & Noble and United Way of Rock River Valley teamed up for the second holiday season in a row to provide books to students throughout Winnebago and Ogle counties. During the months of November and December, Barnes & Noble at Cherryvale Mall have collected books from customers for young readers that will be sorted and distributed to Harlem, Oregon, and Rockford public schools, which participate in United Way’s early-grade reading program, I READ. At last count, we collected over 3,500 books. Last year, 4,400 books were distributed to students. The Holiday Book Drive runs through the end of 2014.

According to a report by the National Commission on Reading, the single most significant factor influencing a child’s early educational success is an introduction to books and being read to at home prior to beginning school. Help us put more books in the hands of young readers that need it the most. Stop by the Barnes & Noble store location at Cherryvale Mall before the end of 2014 and pick out a classic or favorite child book of your own.
