Honoring the legacy of Frank Ware, beloved community advocate

Honoring the legacy of Frank Ware, beloved community advocate
Frank Ware

Frank Ware, former president and CEO of Janet Wattles Center

For over 30 years, Frank Ware fought to provide respectful and high quality care to individuals in the Rock River Valley suffering from mental illness, who were too often overlooked or stigmatized. When others turned them away, the beloved former president and CEO of Janet Wattles Center personally took the time to understand the needs of each individual. His high standards and expectations over the years resulted in better care for those in need. The community lost a great local champion in Ware when he passed away in 2011.

Shortly after his passing, United Way of Rock River Valley established the Frank Ware Award of Excellence, to honor exceptional community members who embodied the same ideals Ware advocated and fought for every day. Previous recipients included:

2014 – Susan M. Razbadouski, LCSW, ACSW, Family Counseling Services of Northern Illinois

2013 – Megan Cox, Rosecrance

2012 – Sherry Fink, Rosecrance Ware Center

2011 – Julie Barthels, Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling

The award is open to any individual in our community who excels in the delivery of and advocacy for high quality human services. Nominations are accepted online through July 31, 2015. A recipient will be determined by a committee of community leaders and recognized during United Way’s 2015 Campaign Kickoff Luncheon on September 17, 2015. As part of the day activities, United Way will honor Ware’s legacy with a United Way Day of Caring, which features community-wide service projects completed by volunteer teams from organizations and companies.

Help keep the legacy of Frank Ware alive by nominating an individual who exemplifies excellence in service to others, human service advocacy, and an unwavering commitment to our community.
