Why We Vote
The Register Star has brought together a group of people from all over the Rock River Valley to serve on our Election 2008 Voters’ Panel. These men and women are Republicans, Democrats, Independents and Green party members. Some are high school students. Some are retired. And some fall in between those two age groups. They all share this: The upcoming election is important and voters do have voices. They’ll share them in this blog.

Ferraro Comments

Add comment March 13th, 2008

What do the recent comments of Geraldine Ferraro regarding the presidential candicacy of one candidate say about the subject of race and diversity in America?  Too much.  I was blessed to hear the daughter of Bishop Desmond Tutu speak on race and diversity.  I was impressed and informed when she stated that in order to deal effectively with race and diversity you must do the following:  be honest and open, recognize and address, identity within yourself the idoysyncrancies regarding the subject, deal with it. Unfortunately for Geraldine Ferraro many of us are not ready to deal with the subject openly.  Ergo, the public flogging that she received. In order for us to reach solutions for issues facing our country the candidates must address all issues, particularly race and diversity, honestly, frankly and factually.  The candidate who is ready will be the one who moves us forward successfully.
