Getting rid of the electoral college

Few weeks ago there was an article about getting rid off the electoral college. I have been thinking that in a way could be a good idea because the popular vote will be the one counting and we won’t have two winners at the time. It is very disappointing that even people voted and popular vote elected People would be empowered and would be more diligent about who they vote for or at least to have the motivation to go out and vote. Those lobbyists would need to find another job because the popular vote is the one now electing those who represent the interest of the people and are working for the people.

I agree with what you’re saying. Through the years theres been talk off and on about abolishing the electoral college. Propoents say that it serves no purpose and has served the country well throughout our history.
Our founders didn’t trust the people to know enough to vote intelligently even though only male landowners could vote. So, they created the electoral college so that the “Right people” would get elected.
I may be wrong but George W. Bush was only the 4th president to be elected without having a majority of the popular vote. But, if there was ever a reason to abolish the electoral college and elect a president by popular vote, he would be the poster child. All other offices are elected by popular vote, the president should be too.

Thanks to give me some education about how the electoral college was created. The purpose of its creation at the 21st century is obsolete for many reasons and the main one is that women vote. I also believe that people today have the access to a lot information in order to know what they want when they cast their vote. I agree with you that if all offices are elected by popular vote, the president should be too. Being elected by the popular vote gives power to the people and not only to “few”. I hope that in the near future those who believe in this could join forces and start a movement to eliminate the electoral college.

I agree with removing the electoral college. It’s confusing, changes the will of the people and I don’t see any real merit.

I couln’t disagree more. The electoral college is about federalism, and that is the princaple that our country was founded on. Really, that is very dangerous thing to eliminate the Electoral College.
