Why We Vote
The Register Star has brought together a group of people from all over the Rock River Valley to serve on our Election 2008 Voters’ Panel. These men and women are Republicans, Democrats, Independents and Green party members. Some are high school students. Some are retired. And some fall in between those two age groups. They all share this: The upcoming election is important and voters do have voices. They’ll share them in this blog.

Where are all the bloggers?

It seems that there are only a few people offering their views in this blog. That’s really too bad. We used to have spirited but civil discourse in here. It’s too bad we can’t have that again. I miss interacting with those who have views different from mine.

Let’s get this thing going again.

Don: I think — hope — that when we relaunch the ability to comment on stories, we’ll see the old civil conversation come back. I know that one of the issues continues to be that there are half a dozen posters whose determination to hijack the forums and comments pushes others away. It’s just no fun to share ideas and discuss possibilities when there are bullies, so to speak, in the room. Stay with it. Early adopters often feel lonely. Have a great weekend.

Most of the blogging these days is on MySpace and Twitter. Set up an account (they are free) and see if your readers don’t come back for interaction.

Here I am Don? I am in the room now, had to find my way around. I am out of the box and ready to blog. Along the way (finding my way around) I ran into “confession of a trusted counselor,” by David Nadler. Anyway, he made a very interesting point that I like to share with you, well all of us for that matter. “Do we not fall in love with us,” he said. “Our people are smart, they’re funny, they’re interesting to be around. But the minute you fall in love with us and start thinking we have all the answers, you lose your value. You’re not there to be one of us.” I pondered that advice, it could very well be useful for our leaders, advsiors and couselors. In that working more effectively together and understanding that good judgement and common sense can be an interdependent strategy.

I guess my view might be different from yours. I’m sticking to blogging.
