The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that Jerry Lewis will be the 2009 recipient of the prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Academy president Sid Ganis had this to say:
“Jerry is a legendary comedian who has not only brought laughter to millions around the world but has also helped thousands upon thousands by raising funds and awareness for those suffering from muscular dystrophy.”
As I’ve proven here again and again, I’m a big fan of the Jer. Oscar night — that’s Feb. 22, 2009 — can’t come soon enough!
Jerry will never be happy until he gets the Nobel Peace Prize. Hey, Lady!!!

I just don’t see whatever it is you see.
I gotta agree with hokumboy. I have never found a single laugh in anything Jerry Lewis has been in. If you like him, more power to ya – to each his own, right? but I sure don’t see it.
On a positive note, since they are allowing new movie ads during the program, which will force me to stay and watch the commercials, I now know exactly where in the program I can use the bathroom, refresh the snacks, etc.: The Jerry Lewis award segment!
Brian and Hokumboy — it’s not so much that I think he’s funny (though that’s part of it), it’s that I’m consistently (and, I’ll admit, strangely) fascinated by Lewis. He’s the last of his kind — a big, brash, obnoxious old-school celebrity whom, I’d argue, has shown occasional signs of true cinema genius. And Brian — how can you skip it? He might say something really crazy!
Besides, I think they’re will be plenty of bad musical numbers this year that’ll make perfect bathroom breaks!
