I haven’t had a chance to analyze them in any great detail, but I did notice a couple of surprises: No Best Picture nomination for THE DARK KNIGHT, no nominations for Clint Eastwood, and Kate Winslet gets her Best Actress nomination for THE READER, not REVOLUTIONARY ROAD.
As far as my predictions from yesterday go, I was 2 for 5 in Best Picture, 5 for 5 in Best Actor (though I accidentally guessed six, so that category gets an asterisk, 3 for 5 in Best Actress (I had Winslet, but for the wrong movie), 4 for 5 in Best Supporting Actor, 4 for 5 in Best Supporting Actress, and 3 for 5 in Best Director.
The annual Beat the Movie Man contest starts Sunday, so keep an eye out for the Joker-themed illustration. It won’t be hard to spot.

My biggest disappointed aside from The Dark Knight (no picture or director nom) would be Bruce Springsteen not being nominated for best song for The Wrestler. That song is a great example of fitting a movie and character perfectly. I can\\\’t hear it and not thing of the movie or Randy \\"The Ram\\" Robinson (Mickey Rourke\\\’s character). And I don\\\’t know why it did not get nominated because best song only had 3 nominations, so there was room for two more. Oh well overall happy with most of the nominations a good year for movies this year.
I agree with Adam, I can’t think that ABC is too pleased with the best song selections either. They probably planned on bringing in viewers to see performances by The Boss, Mylie Cyrus and Beyonce. Nope, sorry!
While I thought Heath Ledger was fantastic in “The Dark Knight,” I found Christian Bale’s Batman voice really hard to believe. I don’t know why they didn’t just let him speak normally, and that detracted from the movie as far as I was concerned. I can’t wait to see “Milk” and “The Wrestler,” and unfortunately I missed “Doubt” during the short time it was here; but I’m delighted that “Slumdog Millionaire” got a couple of nods—it was wonderful! Oh, and I’m disappointed about the lack of a Springsteen nomination, too, but often their taste in what constitutes a Best Song is hard to fathom. What I’m really waiting for is the Independent Spirit Awards—they’re lots more fun (and more interesting) than the Oscars. I still watch the Oscars, though, even though I often disagree with both the choices for nominations and the winners. And just as an aside, you did see “Extras” when Kate Winslet was on it, didn’t you? Almost prophetic. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen several of the performances or movies this year, so I don’t know if they’re good choices or not. Missed “The Visitor,” although I heard good things about it, and it sounds like Frank Langella is terrific in “Frost/Nixon,” so I definitely have some catching up to do.
SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE was an excellent film and more than deserving of the Best Picture Oscar. I have a feeling, though, that a great many folks who go to SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE based on their preceptions from the current TV trailer will be disappointed, or shocked.
The trailer gives such a erroneous impression that it’s a Feel Good-Bollywood film that an awful lot of people will be in for an unexpected suprise.

Mickey Rourke gave an outstanding performance.
Glad to see Michale Shannon get the nod. He\’s way underrated. Hasn\’t a chance going up against Ledger though probably.
