Jake and Elwood Blues might rob, cheat, steal, drink, blaspheme and break all sorts of traffic laws, but apparently they’re AOK according to the Catholic bigwigs. Via the Hollywood Reporter:
“When Jake and Elwood Blues, the protagonists in John Landis’ cult classic “The Blues Brothers” claimed they were on a mission from God, the Catholic Church apparently took them at their word.
On the 30th anniversary of the film’s release, “L’Osservatore Romano,” the Vatican’s official newspaper, called the film a “Catholic classic” and said it should be recommended viewing for Catholics everywhere.
Nice to see the church has lightened up a bit after centuries of censorship. Then again, there’s still this – apparently, the Pope is no fan of “Avatar”.

I hate Illinois Nazis just as much as the next guy, but they added the evil to the Blues Brother’s good, in they’re mission from God. A morality play on good verse evil? I wouldn’t go that far, but who am I to argue with the Catholic Church. BTW- They also signed off on the Harry Potter books/movies so they’re OK with me.
