After realizing in graduate school in Berkeley, Calif., that geology was not in his future, Barry Wood returned to his Indiana hometown and eventually landed a job at the local newspaper. That was 35 years ago, and he’s still in journalism, as senior copy editor at the Rockford Register Star and writer of the Wood on Words column. This is his first blog.
